Singing
Lesons
The Actors Store has been searching for a long time to find a good singing
exercise programme - something that can help you through the essential
daily practice that is necessary to strengthen and maintain a good singing
voice. We also wanted a CD that was useable: it is no good buying something
which is just going to sit on a shelf somewhere unused.
Singing for the Terrified
Glyn James' CD sets out a programme of ten-minute lessons - starting with
breathing and relaxation exercises and going on to singing scales and
short songs - that can fit easily into your daily routine. It also provides
you with a pre-performance warm-up.
The programme works for all sorts of voices and all types of singer, with
plenty of encouraging and down-to-earth advice to help you cope with both
the physical and the mental aspects of singing, Above all, its ten-minute-a-day
format enables you to make progress without becoming tense and self conscious.
The "Singing for the Terrified" CD is available now from The Actors Store
and is the first of a series of exercise programmes that Glyn has designed
to help you relax and put all of your energy into the performance.
Singing on the Move
The profession is always changing. Singers now move (sometimes in a single
week) between pop music, acting, TV presenting and musical theatre. The
old-fashioned approach - that taught you a completely different technique
for each type of singing - is useless to singers in the present market
and to those trying to enter the profession.
Glyn's new programme reflects the way that singers live now. Instead of
giving you a check-list of things to remember, "Sing on the Move" will
help you develop a flexible technique and a way of performing that looks
and feels natural and spontaneous.
It is a programme that can be practised anywhere, whether you are driving,
working at home or preparing for a show. And for those concerned about
being overheard while practising, it is a learn-by-sing CD: a series of
lessons disguised as a series of songs.
The "Sing on the Move" CD is currently in preparation and will be available
from The Actors Store later this year.
